In-Person Workshops are Winding Down
Over the last ten years, I've taught well over 700 live workshops - and I've loved every one! I get so excited to see people's smiles when they create something they really didn't know they could make. Alcohol inks have been my main love, but I also enjoy other types of inks and tools - acrylic ink, India ink, even writing inks meant for fountain pens. Working with silicone tools, unique brushes, and dip pens - using stencils and other mixed-media supplies. I tried to branch

The New Year's Resolution That Changed My Life
Every year, millions of people make New Year's resolutions, but few stick to them long enough to see real change. In 2014, I made a resolution that not only lasted but transformed my life in ways I never expected. This is the story of how one decision opened a door to creativity and ultimately a new career. The catalyst At the end of 2014, I found myself stuck in a routine that drained my energy. I was a mom of three and working full-time in a very stressful marketing role. I

Sublimation Blanks - A Game Changer for Alcohol Inks
VIDEO TUTORIAL This is not a video about sublimation printing. Sublimation printing allows you to print photos or patterns onto a variety of objects (clothing, mugs, wood, metal, almost anything). It does however require special inks (not alcohol inks) printed onto a special paper which it then transferred to a surface (that’s has a coating to accept the design) with heat or a special machine. That’s a lot of “special” materials. If you’d like to learn more about sublimation

My Alcohol Ink Supply List
Alcohol inks are very vibrant, yet transparent, dyes in an alcohol base. They are ideal for use on non-porous surfaces -- plastic, glass, metal, glazed ceramic, acetate -- anything that allows them to float and spread on the surface until they dry. And since they are alcohol-based, as soon as the alcohol evaporates, they are dry. You can get started with alcohol inks pretty easily for around $30 - for $50 (depending on how many colors of ink you buy.) Please keep in mind tha

Spray Sealants for Alcohol Inks
Because the inks are dyes, and not pigments, they are not completely lightfast. So, in time, they can start to fade from exposure to direct sunlight. We're talking direct sunlight for hours a day, over a long period of time, but it can happen. To protect them from fading, it is a good idea to seal them with a clear UV-resistant spray. However, these sprays contain a lot of alcohol and can reactivate your inks, even causing them to move or drip. So, it's best to first spray wi
