Loose Doodles with Alcohol Ink and India Ink

Learn how to create these bold, modern designs with alcohol ink and India Ink. First, we'll practice some doodle designs based on guides which will loosen up our movements. We'll create some vibrant swatches of color with alcohol inks and then add loose doodles over the top with India ink. This truly gets more fun every time you do it! SUPPLY LIST: ALCOHOL INK My favorite brands are Ranger/Tim Holtz, Pinata brand by Jacquard, or Altenew, If you are serious about creating beautiful art, please don't buy the cheap brands popping up on Amazon - you will be very frustrated and will end up buying better ink later anyway. For this project, you can use a rainbow of colors - the color palette is up to you! INDIA INK I prefer Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay India Ink 91% OR 99% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL (IPA) Either is fine - just so it's not 70%, which isn't strong enough.- Have this handy in a small sealed bottle to clean brushes in between using different colors. BLENDING SOLUTION Ranger Alcohol Blending Solution really does work differently than Isopropyl Alcohol and I highly recommend it. Don't try to make your own (I have) because it doesn't work as well and doesn't dry properly. A little goes a long way, so overall the Ranger brand will save you a lot of frustration and money in the long run. PAPER/SUBSTRATE Any synthetic paper (I like Yupo, Grafix Dura-Brite Opaque White or White Craft Plastic) For this project I recommend a 9x12 or 12x12 size. CLEAR FILM OR ACETATE This is optional, but very helpful for practicing the doodling action before actually doing it on your painting. Any clear acetate or film will work (must be firm, though, not like Saran Wrap). Some options are: - Clear Page Protectors - Grafix Clear Plastic TOOLS 1" flat brush (or any larger brush) Dry-erase marker or other marker that can be wiped off of clear film or acetate OTHER This project uses bigger puddles of ink, so make sure to be in a well-ventilated area or wear a respirator.
